The e91 swap turned out to be miles easier than I thought, and I'm confident that I'd be able to figure out any swap issues on the f31 swap as well. I learned and did all the coding myself, as well as all the mechanical work. The goal here would be to have a running and driving n55 or b58 powered xdrive f31 wagon, pushing roughly around 400whp.

For an f30/f32 it’s not really worth it as to save time and headaches you sell the n20 car and buy the b58 car instead. But if you have the time to burn and the electronics knowledge, you can save maybe 10k in physical money but it takes plenty hours + tools + troubleshooting to get it all to play nicely.

F30 engine swap? Still new to BMWs but curious in regards to the feasibility of swapping the n55 out for a B58 or S55. I can imagine the usual like swapping the ECU with the engine but what major barriers would really complicate such a job to becoming not worth it?

Gen1 B58 owner here. 35k miles with a stage 1 tune since 31k miles, OEM downpipe and intercooler. Never dealt with any serious repairs asides from usual maintenance like oil changes every 5k etc. Great power output and reliability from my experience. I would get another B58 car if I could.
